FOR WHOM THE BELLS TOLL
Tutsis all got
screwed
In one hundred days in 1994 in the central African nation of Rwanda,
the Hutu majority ethnic group at the instigation and coordination
of Hutu government and civic "leaders" carried out a genocide
against the Tutsi minority, hacking to death or shooting at least
800,000 people. Apparently, the killing of Tutsis was three times
the rate of killing Jews during the Holocaust, according to journalist
Philip Gourevitch whose book about the Rwandan genocide, We
wish to inform you that tomorrow we will be killed with our families,
inspired the lyrics of this song. Early on the pictures of the massacre
were appearing on CNN or being described in the pages of the major
print media yet the Clinton Administration not only did not take effective
action, it actively thwarted UN efforts to stop the genocide. Non-governmental
groups like Amnesty International also failed to act in a timely or
effective manner.
