CNN
The Cable News Network started out as an innovative and serious 24-hour
news reporting channel that included real investigative reporting.
However, even this was not impervious to ratings and corporate pressure
and by the time of the Gulf War, according to a former member of CNN,
its editors and reporters were consciously squashing stories on the
assumption that they were patriots first, reporters second. By the
time of the destruction of the World Trade Center, CNN had gotten
the corporate branding side of things down to a tee, complete with
a marquee that started out as
America Under Attack, now
America's
New War. Pentagon reports are taken at face value and former Defense
Department personnel's words are taken as gospel, with any shred of
independent reporting gone. It is the media's evolved responsibility
to inform the citizenry of government actions so that the citizenry
can make informed choices.
