So "American" is claiming a mandate based on the alleged liberal claim of a mandate in 1992, a claim which he himself rejected? Thus is the state of politics today -- make any argument you can to bolster your case without any consideration of intellectual or political consistency.

Franklin shouldn't be playing with numbers, if for no other reason because he doesn't have to.51%, or 52%, simply is not a mandate, no matter how you spin it.In 1992, 62% of the people voted against Bush. That was a clearly a mandate for change. That's far different from claiming that it was a mandate for Clinton.

Actually Franklin, he/she may be, possibly, a moderate Democrat who thinks that the left helped to polarize the electorate and alienated people from Kerry in swing states.
